Should I tell them that I have a daughter or not?

I would say, tell them the same thing as you are telling us - something like "I don't have a child of my one, but I am helping to raise one". It also depends on your relationship with the child's father. If he is more than just a friend, you could call the girl your stepdaughter, and say something like "I have a stepdaughter that I love very much".
